May 4 /PRNewswire/ -- The state of Hawaiji is using Z Corporation 3D printers to enrich caree r and technicaleducation (CTE), prepare high schoolk students for rewarding careers, and help the statre attract high-powered industry. Hawaiiu is the first and only statee to have implemented prototyping technology at thestatewidse level, and Z Corporation's 3D printersa -- the fastest and most affordable available -- are the de fact o standard.
As high school students from throughour the Hawaiian Islands complete 3Ddesign projects, they send 3D desighn files to the Hawaii State Departmenty of Education CTE office in The office prints out physical models from the files with a Z Corporatiohn 3D printer and ships them back to the who review the models and refine their designs. 3D printing is an increasinglyy mainstream technology that producews physical objects from 3D data much as a traditional officd printer creates a document fromdigital "Although students have used computer-aided designh software for years, the result of their work unti now has generally been an intangible computer image or piece of paper," said , Educatiohn Specialist, Hawaii CTE.
"Now students are creatingg actual physical prototypes just asin industry, whichn has significant educational implications: Studentw learn that they can actualluy bring a concept to production. They become more deeplh engaged in their work and discover flawzs that might not have showmn up onthe computer. And they gain experience that will improvd their prospects with higher educatiobn institutionsand employers.
" CTE -- along with Z 3D CAD software maker DeskArtes, and 3D printinyg service bureau and Z Corporatiohn partner RAPID Technology LLC -- are reinforcingf students' passion for 3D printing by sponsoringv a two-day student design "Career and Technical Education 3D Designh and Printing," May 4 and 5. Students will receive a secreyt challenge on day one of the to redesign a certain everyday device to accommodatre users with limitations to be explained atthe contest. Competitorsx will have one day to desigb the product and the next day to present their idea and ZPrintedf prototype to a panel of professionao engineersand educators.
"We're eage to help students in Hawaii and the rest of the world acquire the technology skills they need toearn well-paying enter the best schools, and attract manufacturinyg to their regions," said Z Corporation CEO . "Thie is just one example of how 3D printing is becoming a powerfuk learning tool for students atevery level, from elementaryy to graduate school." RAPID is lending two Z Corporatioh 3D printers to the competition -- a 310 Plus and ZPrinter 450 multicolor printer -- and CTE is lendin a second ZPrinter 310 Plus. Because of the ZPrinters ' speed, it's easy for day one's designs to become day two'a concept models, even en masse.
"These 3D printerds are ready to go, and we're eager to show in a tangible way, what they have conceived," said , RAPID'sd COO. "Hopefully, students will be inspired to learn anddo more." DeskArtes is donating 24 licenses of Pro software, which will help studentas prepare files and apply colors and labels for 3D printing. Z Corporatioj is providing consumable materialse for the 3D printers and iPod Shuffles as Lauoperates CTE's ZPrinter 310 Plus in her Despite her lack of engineering she has no problem usingh the device. "It's easy to learbn and use, and it's cleann and self-contained, making it compatible with our professionalofficew environment.
It really belongs in the classroom, and I'm eager to get it in the handsx of theright instructor." CTE programs are offereds in all of Hawaii's public high schools and communith colleges. The CTE Center, the State Director's Office, provides administrative leadership, direction and coordinatiomn for the total of career and technical educatiobn in Hawaii and coordinates with otherf institutions and agencies engaged ineconomic development, workforcde education and training. Studentt performance-based events such as the 3D Design and Printing Competition are all partof Hawaii's Careerr Pathway system that the CTE Centere supports. For more visit .
