About 500 factory workers and 140 salarier personnel are affected bythe five-week said in May that production would be stoppedx for three weeks at the local facilitty as the automaker reduces inventory by temporaril y idling a number of its plants. That period is bein combined with theregular two-week planned companywidde shutdown that starts on June 29. Spokeswomanj Nina Price said that a smalpl workforceof “maybe 100” is stayinb on the job during much of the plant’s three-week shutdown. No schedule change at the locapl plant has been ordered at this time becausr of an extension of the temporary summertim closures at sevenGM factories, she said.
These locations includs the Oshawa, Ont., car plant, and othe assembly plants at Lordstown, Shreveport, La., and Orion Township - which receive enginexs from Tonawanda. The latest round of closures was announcedx this week and range from one added week at the Oshawa factory to four additional weeks at the Lansinh Grand River plantin Michigan. Most of the locations will go down for threde added weeksin July.
