Columbia on Wednesday said customers will pay 52 cent s per 100 cubic feet of naturap gasin August, down 16 centds from July and off 83 centws from a year ago. The averagw bill next month willbe $24.47, down from $30.85 last The last time Columbia’s naturalp gas rate was below 52 cents was when it hit 45 centw in the second quarter of 2002, spokesman Ken Stammen said. The cost climbed to 62 cents in the thired quarter of that yearbut hasn’t dipped lower untilk the August rate. Natural gas costs hit record highzlast summer, sending Columbia’s monthly gas cost recovery to a high of $1.443 per 100 cubic feet in July 2008.
