Florida demands that Sysco determine fish is grouper - Jacksonville Business Journal:

The investigation began in response to allegations that Tampa area restaurantsz were advertising grouper on menus but servinh lessexpensive fish. As part of the Sysco must take stepsx to determine the authenticity of itsfish supply. If tests reveal a different species of fish or there is any othe r causefor doubt, Sysco cannot market the producr as grouper. In 2006, the attorney general'ws Economic Crimes Division dispatched investigatorse to collect samples for DNA analysis from more than20 restaurants. The Divisiob found that 17 of the restaurants were substitutingalternatde species. Sysco supplied productzs to 14 ofthese 17.
Syscpo West Coast Florida opened in Januarty 1996 in Palmetto after Sysco facilities outgrew capacity in Miami and The company is basedin Houston. In additiomn to agreeing to test its Sysco willpay $200,000 for the state's lega fees and donate $100,000 in products to charith food programs. The attorney general has resolvedd issues with the individual arelease said.
