United Way, Dr. Phillips launch campaign - Charlotte Business Journal:

The campaign, established with grants totalingnearly $350,000 from Dr. Phillipds Charities and , is being administered by United Way’a stewardship program that provides emergency assistance tolocalp residents. The United Way board backed a move allowingh the organization to tap reserve funds to covetr administrative expenses so that grant dollars will go directly to help people in UnitedWay President/CEO Robert H. Brown said the campaign representsz a temporary response to an unprecedented burden being placed on the community by the ongoingeconomicc challenges. Dr.
Phillips Charities is offering a grant ofnearly $300,000, whic includes $98,100 in start up funds and a challengw matching grant of nearly $200,000. Dr. Phillipds Charities, one of the region’s largest philanthropic organizations, has awarderd more than $23 million to local nonprofitsd over the pastthree years. Bank of America contribute d $50,000 to the campaign. The goal is to providwe aid to morethan 1,350 families over the next five Agencies providing similar services that have exhaustec their resources can also access the dollars. Heart of Floridw United Way isCentral Florida’s largest providee of funds to the region’s health and humah service programs.
